Wrestling safety

March 5th, 2009

After watching “The Wrestler” (a totally awesome movie by the way) the other day I went online to research, whether the story was biographically or not. After some time I came across “Wrestling Obituaries” and was shocked to learn that most of the (former WWF) guys I watched doing their showy thingy on TV more than 20 years ago have already passed away, most of them due to heart attacks….in their mid-40s!!!. The following names rang some bells and brought back some childhood memories for me:

RIP. I guess, “The Wrestler” portrays the reality of wrestlers better than you’d expect.

Yo,

that is really shocking news. I was a huge wrestling fan when I was a kid (back in the days), and I know all the ones you listed.

The only death I heard of was Owen Hart’s one (brother of my favourite wrestler, Bret “The Hitman” Hart… man, he got skills – oh, wait, I remember “Sting”… I think HE was my favourite one!). Owen Hart’s fall was a rather unnatural death and was big in the media. BTW: “Hart fell 78 feet (24 m) into the ring, …” (a href=”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owen_Hart#Death”>Wikipedia)

But the others? The British Bulldog (who is in your listing twice)? Yokozuna? Big Bossman? Earthquake? Bam Bam Bigelow?

ALL OF THEM ALREADY DEAD???
Man, that’s tough.

Well, since you say it’s an awesome movie, I might try “The Wrestler” myself – but the next big upcoming event will be “Watchmen”. :-)

Altaaaa… das wusste ich allerdings auch nicht, dass die Jungs schon über’n Deich sind. Krasse news. Und das Video ist echt mal krass, finde ich… :( So viele Erinnerungen…
Gruß,
Musch
